돈암서원 원정비 · 遯巖書院 院庭碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele stands within Donamseowon Confucian Academy, recording the background to the academy's founding, the life of Sagye Kim Jang-saeng (1548–1631), whose spirit tablet is enshrined there, and the layout of the academy. Donamseowon was built by local Confucian scholars who pooled their efforts to honour Kim Jang-saeng's scholarship and virtuous conduct. It is one of forty-seven academies that were not abolished when the Heungseon Daewongun, acting as regent, ordered the closure of Confucian academies nationwide. The spirit tablets of Kim Jip, Song Jun-gil and Song Si-yeol are enshrined alongside his, and memorial rites are held every year in the second and eighth lunar months. The stele consists of a stone body set upon a tall rectangular base and topped with a roof-shaped capstone; it was erected in 1699, the tenth year of King Hyeonjong of Joseon. Song Si-yeol composed the inscription and Song Jun-gil wrote the characters, while the title inscribed in seal script on the front of the stele body was written by Kim Man-gi.
