논산영모재 · 論山永慕齋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis shrine was built near the grave of Lady Heo of the Yangcheon Heo clan, a Jeonggyeongbuin, the title granted to the wife of a senior first-rank official, during the Joseon dynasty. Lady Heo was the wife of Kim Mun, an official of Yemungwan, the Office of Royal Decrees; widowed at the age of seventeen, she is said to have raised her posthumous son Kim Cheol-san alone and remained chaste for the rest of her life. The shrine was built in 1646, the twenty-fourth year of King Injo, and its front area contains a gatehouse, a caretaker's house and other buildings. Yeongmojae, the hall at the rear, has three bays across the front and two bays to the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof that forms the shape of the Chinese character 八 (meaning 'eight') when viewed from the side. A large wooden-floored hall (daecheong) is set on the south side.
