Yeongcheon Gyeongju Kim Clan Jisagong Head House
영천경주김씨지사공종택 · 永川慶州金氏知事公宗宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the head house of Kim Heup, who served as Jisa of the Jungchubu, a senior post at a central government office, during the reign of King Jungjong of Joseon. It is said that Kim Heup originally built the house, but after it was destroyed by bands of brigands, his descendants rebuilt it in the early 19th century. Standing at the centre of the village on sloping ground, the house has a sotdaemun, a gate taller than the surrounding wall; passing through it, a ㄷ-shaped sarangchae (men's quarters) and a straight, ㅡ-shaped anchae (women's quarters) combine to form a ㅁ-shaped, or square, courtyard layout. On higher ground at the rear stand the shrine and memorial stele of Kim Yeon (1552–1592), who raised a righteous army during the Japanese invasions of 1592. At the entrance to the village, Namgang-jeongsa, where Kim Yeon's son pursued his studies, sits amid a broad pond. With the anchae, sarangchae, shrine and gate all substantially arranged, the building is well equipped in scale, as befits a clan head house.
