고성 철산정사 · 固城 鐵山精舍

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krCheolsanjeongsa in Goseong is a jaesil, a memorial hall built below the tomb of General Yi Dal, a righteous-army commander during the Imjin War. It is a wooden, tile-roofed building rebuilt in 1880, the seventh year of Emperor Gojong, and was repaired once more in 1940. The jeongsa faces south and stands at the end of the southern slope of Cheolmasan Mountain, in the upper reaches of Jangjwacheon Stream. The lecture hall and the gate building face one another, and a gojiksa, a caretaker's house, stands to the southeast of the gate. The jeongsa itself has a single-eaved hip-and-gable roof, four bays wide at the front and 1.5 bays deep at the side. Its plan consists, from the left, of two bays of heated ondol rooms each with a narrow toenmaru veranda, one bay of wooden-floored maru, and a further ondol room with a toenmaru veranda. The bracket style is jangyeo-sujang, a simple beam-type structure without bracket sets, and the roof frame above is a samnyangga, a three-purlin structure. The gate building is three bays along each of three sides, under a hipped roof.
