This house is said to have been built around 1780 at great expense by the fifth-generation ancestor of its present owner, Son Jeong-ho. It was originally called Gyorongam, but has come to be known as Jusadaek ("House of the Jusa") because Son Jeong-ho's fourth-generation ancestor passed the munkwa civil service examination and held the post of jusa (clerk) in the Gungnaebu, the Office of the Royal Household. The L-shaped ("ㄱ"-shaped) women's quarters (anchae) and men's quarters (sarangchae) stand side by side, left and right, each enclosed by its own facing wall to form a separate inner courtyard. The anchae follows the formal layout common to the large houses of this region. The projecting front sections of both the anchae and sarangchae contain spacious grain stores and storerooms, showing that the household was well off at the time. The sarangchae likewise has an L-shaped plan, five kan across the front and two kan deep, and is unusual in having its own gate, separate from that of the inner courtyard. A thatched-roof mill house and cattle shed stand in the middle of the inner courtyard, while a thatched study (chodang) is set off to the east in the sarangchae's courtyard.
