This house was built in 1876, the 13th year of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, by Kim Nan-yeong (pen name Nongsan), and was later lived in by his son Kim Roe-sik (pen name Namho, 1877-1935). Set against a low hill on a spur of Eungbangsan Mountain, the house has a square, courtyard-enclosed layout in which, upon passing through the gate house (daemungan-chae) with its raised sotdaemun gate, the main hall (anchae) and the reception hall (sarangchae) meet to form an enclosed quadrangle. In the square-plan houses typical of this region, the inner gate (jungmungan) is usually placed in the middle, next to the reception hall, but in this house it is set to the side instead. The front-centre section has a projecting storage room (dojangbang), giving the house an unusual composition; several houses of this type survive in this village.
