Incheon Seowon, a Confucian academy, has a simple layout of four buildings, following the typical seowon arrangement of lecture quarters at the front and a shrine behind. At the front stand a three-bay gate building and Gyeonghyeondang Hall, the lecture hall; on the same straight axis behind them are a three-bay inner gate and Gyeonginsa Shrine, which together form the shrine area at the rear. Gyeonghyeondang Hall has five front bays with an eaves bay added on each side, and is one and a half bays deep; in its construction, half-bay spaces were added to the front of both ends of an originally five-bay gable-roofed building, giving it eaves extensions on the front and both sides, with small pent roofs over the side extensions. In plan, there is an eaves bay at the front, a two-bay wooden-floored hall at the centre and the bay to its east, and ondol-heated rooms of two bays each on either side. The frame is a simple three-purlin structure on plain columns, with a crescent-shaped tie beam at the centre of the hall supporting a drum-shaped king-post above it. Gyeonginsa Shrine has an eaves bay at the front and, behind it, a three-bay, single-chamber shrine hall; it is a gable-roofed building with gable wind boards on both sides, and its bracket set is an elaborate two-tiered form topped with phoenix-head ornaments, finished with decorative colour painting featuring lotus-flower patterns.
