This house, standing in Hoji Village, is said to have been built around 1805, the fifth year of King Sunjo's reign in Joseon. The houses of Hoji Village are characterised by backing onto the mountain while facing west. Gugyedaek likewise faces west, with its sarangchae, or men's quarters, set facing south, following the distinctive arrangement typical of this village. The building is centred on the sarangchae and anchae, or women's quarters, and forms a square floor plan enclosing a central courtyard. The sarangchae is laid out with a wooden-floored hall and an adjoining wooden-floored room, with an eaves bay at the front; the floor in front of the room projects further forward than that eaves bay. The anchae is a double-depth house divided into front and rear rows. Centred on the two-bay main room and the main wooden-floored hall at the front, a kitchen is set to the left of the main room and a side room to its right. Behind the kitchen is a storeroom giving access to the main room, and in front of the side room a one-bay wooden floor has been laid, fitted with a railing.
