This is a jaesil, a hall built for the performance of ancestral rites, enshrining the spirit tablets of Gwon In-hyeong and his son Gwon Se-pyeong of the Andong Gwon clan. They were descendants of Gwon Jeon, the maternal grandfather of King Danjong of Joseon, and when the family became caught up in the Sayuksin (Six Martyred Subjects) affair over the restoration of King Danjong, the whole household met with disaster; only his grandson Gwon Chaek survived, and was exiled alone to this place, where he settled. Upholding the wishes of their forebears, they devoted themselves to study and to training the next generation, and never entered official service. In keeping with a last wish, the records and everyday traces bound up with the sorrowful fate of their ancestors were hidden away or burned, and their utmost filial devotion was renowned far and wide. It can only be surmised that the hall was built around 1750, the 26th year of King Yeongjo; no records concerning the hall itself survive.
