Woncheonjae is a seodang (village school) building located in Donghwa-ri, a clan village of the Jinju Kang clan. According to the Woncheonjaeseo plaque hanging in the hall, the family had been honest but poor for generations, so poor that even its most gifted members had nowhere to study; concerned at the lack of any place to educate the family's talented youth, Kang Tae-han chose the site, and his elder brother Kang Tae-yun helped him to put up the building. The date of construction is recorded on the plaque as 'gapsul', which, judging from Kang Tae-han's dates of birth and death, is estimated to correspond to 1934. The building was the predecessor of the Donghwa branch school of Songnam Elementary School, which opened in 1950. It has a single-row (il-shaped) plan of three bays across the front and three bays in depth, topped with a hip-and-gable roof, and is enclosed by a surrounding wall.
