울릉도태하리광서명각석문 · 鬱陵島台霞里光緖銘刻石文

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krLocated inside a valley not far from the coast, this is an inscription carved into the exposed surface of a huge basalt boulder that had rolled down from the mountain. The inscription was carved on a flat section of the rock that tilts at an angle facing south-east. On this flat surface, 160 cm wide and 170 cm high, seven lines of text from different dates are inscribed, the carved characters each about 10 cm in size. The inscription includes the phrases '光緖十六年' (the sixteenth year of Guangxu) and '光緖十九年' (the nineteenth year of Guangxu), showing that it records events from the 27th year of Emperor Gojong's reign (1890) and the 30th year (1893). Ulleungdo Island Taeharigwangseomyeonggakseongmun Gate is valued as precious epigraphic material documenting Ulleungdo Island's modern historical development.
