Inpungjeong Pavilion takes its name from a spot created in 1678 by Sin Chi-jung (pen name Mugilheon), who built an earthen embankment and planted trees to the east of Yangchon village in Samga-hyeon county to make a pleasant place to catch the breeze, and named it Inpungjeong. In 1923 the present building was erected on the site by his descendant Sin Jong-hak, and it has survived to this day. Inpungjeong is a pavilion-style building four bays wide and two bays deep, built as a five-purlin structure with sorasujang-style brackets (a bracket type using small blocks), double eaves and a hipped-and-gabled roof. It stands on a platform and foundation stones of natural stone, with round columns used for the outer row and square columns for the inner row. The front doors are all two-leaf lattice doors (ttisalmun), fitted with a transom window above and finished below with a low wooden sill (meoreum). In the main hall, a coffered ceiling (umulbanja) connects the ridge purlin and the middle purlin. The rear of Inpungjeong rises in four tiers of natural stone retaining walls; a side gate stands at the entrance, and the rest of the boundary is enclosed by a traditional wall of mixed earth and stone.
