The complex is divided by a wall into two parts: the residential quarters, and the ancestral ritual hall and family shrine. The residential quarters consist of the anchae (women's quarters), sarangchae (men's quarters), a mill house, a storehouse and a gate house. On a nearly square plot with roughly equal width and depth, the anchae and sarangchae are arranged side by side on a north-south line, with the mill house and grain storehouse placed between them; the overall layout thus forms the open square-shaped plan typical of upper-class houses in the southern region. The gate house is set close against the right side of the plot, creating a visual effect while also securing a yard that serves as both the sarang yard and the servants' quarters yard.
