At the centre of the composition is a seated image of the bodhisattva Ksitigarbha, flanked by the venerable Domyeong and King Mudok, each bearing a round halo, with the wider retinue — the Ten Kings of the Underworld, court officials, messengers and child attendants — arranged in orderly symmetry on either side. Seated in the lotus position on a white lotus throne raised on a high platform, Ksitigarbha wears a transparent hood outlined in ink; his right hand, raised to chest height, holds a wish-fulfilling jewel, while his left hand rests on his knee. A monk's staff set before the pedestal leans diagonally against his left shoulder. Domyeong and King Mudok, Ksitigarbha's attendant figures, stand with hands joined in prayer, while the Ten Kings each wear an official cap and stand facing Ksitigarbha, some holding a hol (a ceremonial tablet carried by officials), others with hands joined or holding a scroll. The beards of the Ten Kings and the roots of the fur in the retinue's fur caps are rendered in delicate detail with a fine brush. The clouds are painted in brown with partial white shading.
