Giheon-guryeo is the house built and lived in by Gang Du-hwan, pen name Giheon (1781–1854). Born in 1781, the fifth year of King Jeongjo, he passed the regular civil service examination in 1807, the seventh year of King Sunjo, and as a Pilseon, an instructor of the Crown Prince Tutorial Office, taught the crown prince, later King Heonjong. He afterwards retired to Beopjeon-ri in Bonghwa and did not return to official life. The following year, in 1845, the eleventh year of King Heonjong, he is said to have built the house now standing on the present site. The main building has six bays across the front and two bays to the side, the whole arranged as a sarang (men's reception) space. On the left are a heated room (ondol) and a small shrine chamber placed front and back; on the right, a narrow veranda bay and two heated rooms are arranged along the beam direction, with a built-in wall cupboard at the rear. The gate quarters have a gate set in the centre, with a two-bay storeroom to the right floored with a wooden-plank floor (umulmaru) and enclosed with timber-panelled walls, and on the left a single heated room and a shed. The roof is a three-purlin gabled roof, but over the gate bay alone the roof is raised to form a soaring gate (sotdaemun).
