Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBangok Historic House is owned by the Bangok branch of the Jangyeon No clan; as there are no detailed documentary records such as a ridge-beam inscription or a reconstruction record, the exact date of its founding is not clear. The main house (anchae) is said to have been built in 1852, the fourth year of King Cheoljong, when No Hui-gan, pen name Bangok, was 45 years old. The main house is a jeontoejip (a house with a front veranda bay) measuring four bays across the front and one and a half bays to the side; its rooms are arranged with a wooden-floored hall (daecheong) at the centre and a room on each side, with a kitchen attached. A wall cupboard is set at the rear of the rooms, a narrow side floor (jjokmaru) at the rear of the hall, and a plank ceiling (cheonbang) at the rear of the kitchen; on the right side the space is extended beyond the line of the columns. The roof has single eaves in the hapgak (gabled hip) style. The sarangchae (men's quarters) is a jeontoejip measuring three bays across the front and one and a half bays to the side, and the inner sarangchae (ansarangchae) measures three bays across the front and one bay to the side: the left bay is a storeroom, the centre bay and the right half-bay are rooms, and the remaining half-bay is a wooden floor. The roof has single eaves in the hipped (ujin-gak) style.
