Sagokdaek, in Goesi-ri village, Yeongdeok, is said to have been built by Nam Yong in the 37th year of the reign of Emperor Gojong (1900), and purchased in 1942 by Nam Eung-ho, father of the present owner. The name "Sagokdaek" is said to derive from Sagok in Gyeongju, the home village of the wife of Nam Jo-yeong, grandfather of the present owner, Nam Myeong-sun. Sagokdaek is a square, courtyard-style building four kan wide and five kan deep, with square columns set on natural-stone plinths over a natural-stone foundation; the walls, foundation and chimneys have been coated over with cement. Centred on the gate bay is a one-kan stable to the left, and to the right a lower room and the sarangdaecheong, the men's quarters' wood-floored hall. The right wing, connected to this hall, consists of a two-kan sarangbang and a half-kan passage bay; the part of the sarangbang adjoining the passage bay was originally a storeroom, converted into a room around the 1980s. The roof over the men's quarters is a gable roof, with a narrow wooden veranda fitted on its outer side. The left wing, connected to the stable, consists of a toilet, kitchen and anbang, though the toilet and kitchen have been partly altered in a modern style. In the women's quarters, an anbang and a storage room were placed to the left of the two-kan hall, though the storage room has also been converted into a room; to the right is an upper room with a narrow veranda at its front, and the rear of the hall is finished with wooden board panelling. The roof frame is a three-purlin structure, and the front roof of the sarangbang has a gabled form, giving the building an unusual appearance. No one currently lives in the house, but it is kept in good condition. Goesi-ri, where Sagokdaek stands, is a clan village over 400 years old inhabited solely by the Yeongyang Nam clan; Sagokdaek's appearance has been slightly altered since its founding, and its construction date is not especially old, but it has on the whole preserved its original form well.
