This is the house where Kim Jeong-rak (1830–1893), known by his pen name Chupa, of the Uiseong Kim clan, and his son Kim Byeong-sik (1856–1936) lived. It was built within the grounds of the Uiseong Kim Clan Head House at Cheonjeon-ri, Treasure No. 450, but is said to have later branched off from the head house as a separate household. Judging from its architectural style, the present building is presumed to have been constructed sometime after the 1850s. It is a tile-roofed house with a square (□-shaped) plan, six bays across the front and five bays to the side, though smaller in scale than usual and differing in form from the typical square layout, with a gatehouse of two bays across the front and one bay to the side attached in the yard. Because of its location amid a dense cluster of traditional Uiseong Kim clan houses, this house holds cultural value, and it is a building that well preserves the style current at the time of its 19th-century construction. Kim Byeong-sik served as a teacher, and from 1911 as headmaster, at Hyeopdong School, established at Cheonjeon in 1907 as the starting point of modern education in the Andong region, and in recognition of his contribution to the independence movement he was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriot's Medal, in 1995.
