An inscription dot-punched into the side of its body shows that the Banja of Cheongnyeonsa Temple, Changnyeong, was made in 1780, the fourth year of King Jeongjo of Joseon. A banja is a bronze gong used in Buddhist temples to summon monks to ritual assemblies. This is a fairly large banja that, in its own way, faithfully preserves the style of late Joseon examples.
