Sudasa Temple inscribed "Geollyung37nyeon" Bronze Bell
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

The Sudasa Temple bronze bell bears an inscription reading the 37th year of Qianlong (1772), so its date of casting is clearly known. At the top of the bell's body a pair of dragons each hold a wish-fulfilling jewel in their mouths, and at the very summit, where the two dragons' bodies cross, sits a large wish-fulfilling jewel. The bell has no yongtong, the cylindrical sound tube usually found at the top of Korean bells, but a circular hole pierced through the centre of the top surface serves the same purpose. Four standing bodhisattva figures are arranged around the bell. Although many bronze bells were cast in the mid-Joseon period, the Sudasa Temple bell ranks among the finest Joseon-period bells for its form, size and decoration.
