Standing Stone Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in Mokga-ri, Sangju
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

The statue's proportions are not entirely balanced, but the crown on its head follows a style not found on other statues, and a notable feature is a single Buddha figure carved at its centre. Judging from the style of the statue and the porcelain and roof-tile fragments found around it, it is thought to have been made during the Goryeo period. However, whereas most Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva images from the early Goryeo period are either attendant figures flanking a main Buddha or seated figures, this statue is distinctive in standing alone as an independent standing image. The statue is 244 cm tall overall, with a girth of 215 cm.
