This house was built by Kim Seong-gu, a civil official of the late Joseon period. His clan seat was Uiseong, his courtesy name was Deokhyu, and his pen name was Paroheon. He passed the lower civil service examination (sama-si) in 1662, the third year of King Hyeonjong, and in 1669 passed the regular state examination (sigyeon mungwa) with first-class honours (gapgwa). He subsequently held several official posts, rising to Governor of Gangwon Province in 1693, the nineteenth year of King Sukjong. Kim Seong-gu first built the house in the seventeenth century, and his descendants rebuilt it, bringing it to its present form. The Paroheon head house consists of a square (ㅁ-shaped) main hall with a six-bay front and five-bay side, a shrine with a three-bay front and two-bay side, a three-gated entrance (sammun) with a three-bay front and one-bay side, and a toilet with a two-bay front and one-bay side, offering insight into the domestic life of gentry (sadaebu) families in the Gyeongsangbuk-do region. The grounds of the house are enclosed by a rough-stone wall, while part of the rear and the area around the shrine are enclosed by a rammed-earth wall.
