Yeongmodang Hall was built by Hosan Yi Jang (1696–1737) — who held posts including Nangcheong of the Ministry of Rites, Jwarang of the Ministry of War, Dosa of Jeon-gwangdo, and examiner for the Honam regional examination — a descendant of Chuman Yi Yeong-gi (1583–1661), in order to commemorate his learning and virtue for future generations. It was renovated in 1886, the 23rd year of King Gojong.
