Jeongchunggak is a building displaying the jeongnyeo (a royal commendation plaque) granted to Yi Hong-in (pen name Nong-eun, 1525-1594), who died in battle while leading over 700 righteous army soldiers against Japanese forces at Gudam, Pungcheon, during the Imjin War. It was built in 1811, the 11th year of King Sunjo. Jeonghyogak is a building displaying the jeongnyeo granted for the filial conduct of Yi Han-o (pen name Yongnuljae, 1719-1793), the eighth-generation descendant of Yi Hong-in. It was built in 1812, the 12th year of King Sunjo. Yi Han-o, descended from a traditional Confucian family, understood loyalty and filial piety to be the foundations of life, and was widely praised in his community for serving his parents with utmost filial devotion. Each building measures one kan (bay) across the front and one kan in depth, with double eaves and a gable roof. It is a rare example of two commendation buildings - one for loyalty, one for filial piety - granted to a single clan and standing side by side.
