Dangye Village School is the shrine of Gwon Bok-heung, who raised a righteous army during the Japanese invasions of the 1590s and died a martyr's death; it was built in 1739, the 15th year of King Yeongjo of Joseon. It was destroyed in 1868, the 5th year of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, and in 1924 an altar was re-established and the shrine restored to worship. Dangye Village School is laid out with its auxiliary buildings arranged around Sungeuidang, the lecture hall, at its centre. The lecture hall, which is designated as Cultural Heritage Material, is a three-purlin-frame structure with single eaves and round purlins (gultodori), with rooms placed to left and right and a three-bay daecheong (open wooden-floored hall) in the middle. A plaque reading "Dangyesa" hangs at the front, and one reading "Sungeuidang" hangs on the rear wall of the daecheong. In particular, the crossbeams installed in the purlin direction between the upper columns at the front of the side bays on either side of the lecture hall clearly display the characteristics of traditional timber construction.
