Jeojonjae consists of one each of a gate building, ancestral ritual hall (jaesil), shrine, stele pavilion, woodblock hall, caretaker's building and toilet, together with two side gates. The overall layout forms an area enclosed by a square wall at the foot of a north-facing hill, with a narrow access road running in front. Jeojonjae itself is a hip-and-gable roofed building five kan wide and two kan deep (kan being the traditional unit of bay spacing). On the west side is a large room two kan wide and 1.5 kan deep, fronted by a toe (a narrow attached veranda space), the two inner rooms divided by sliding doors. At the eastern end, the front of the end bay has a raised wooden floor (numaru) and the rear an ondol-heated room. The central daecheong (wooden-floored hall) forms a wide space of four kan, with hinged wooden shutters (barajimun) at the rear and an attached toe. All the rooms have built-in wall cupboards at the rear. Because the site slopes, a high stone platform (gidan) was built, and on cobblestone foundation stones the pillars at both front and rear were all erected as round columns. In the joinery, soro brackets were used on the column-head blocks and round purlins were used throughout, and even the numaru was fitted with a curved baluster railing, giving the building an overall splendour unusual for a jaesil. The roof frame, however, is simpler than the scale of the building would suggest, consisting of a three-purlin structure with single eaves, and the king post above the main beam of the central daecheong is carved in the shape of a lotus-flower-like ornament. With a spatial scale exceeding that of an ordinary jaesil, the site is organised into three tiered areas; the sense of space before and behind the central building, Jeojonjae, is well established, and the architecture achieves a form that is faithful and complete for a jaesil.
