Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJo Im (pen name Sawol, 1573–1644) built this pavilion in 1621; it was repaired in 1889 by his descendant Jo Eon-gyeom. The pavilion is a tiled, hip-and-gable (paljak) roofed building, four bays wide across the front and two bays deep. A square wall of earth and stone surrounds it, with a four-pillar gate set into the front wall giving access to the pavilion, and to its right stands the stele pavilion (sindobigak) housing Jo Im's commemorative stele (sindobi). The floor plan is of the "jungdang hyeopsil" type, with a two-bay daecheong (wooden-floored hall) at the centre flanked on each side by a one-bay ondol (heated) room; a wooden veranda fitted with a plain balustrade runs across the front. Short lower pillars were set beneath the daecheong's front columns to raise it into a nu-maru (elevated wooden floor), and at the front, thin partition walls were installed with paired hinged lattice doors fitted to form an enclosed wooden-floored room. The timber frame is a five-purlin (oryanga) structure with soro brackets, and the eaves are single-layered (hotcheoma).
