Seated Yeongju Hyucheon-dong Rock-carved Buddha

This rock-carved Buddha is a seated image carved shallowly into one face of a natural rock. The head is carved in relief (yanggak), while the rest of the body is carved in a manner closer to line engraving (seongak). The pedestal and halo have been omitted, but the carving is otherwise complete with no man-made damage. Although the carving shows some lack of skill, its unpretentious, rustic character reflects well the local style of the Goryeo period.
