This is a hyangwan, a type of incense burner used for burning incense, made of brass. A hyangwan is characterised by a bowl-shaped body and a trumpet-like flared foot; the Hwabangsa example has its body and foot made separately and joined together to form a complete piece, and it faithfully carries on the form of Goryeo-period hyangwan. Its condition is good, apart from a slight warping of the broad rim attached to the mouth of the body.
