Naksuam Hermitage, Jinju
진주 낙수암 · 晉州 落水庵

Naksuam Hermitage is thought to have been built in the mid-18th century. An inscription carved into the rock face at its entrance, reading "Songjeong seonsaeng janggu-ji-so" (the resting place of Master Songjeong), shows that this is where Ha Su-il (pen name Songjeong, 1553–1612) once stayed. Restored in 1909 after its original construction, Naksuam has long served as a renowned lecture hall and retreat for the Confucian community of western Gyeongnam. Its siting and layout are excellent, and although it has undergone some partial alteration, it retains well the techniques of traditional timber-frame construction. Its auxiliary buildings include a sau, a shrine for commemorative tablets, and the Hamcheongheon.
