Mansongdang Hall was built to honour the virtue of Gwon Gyeong, also known by his pen name Daeeun (1604–1666), sixth-generation descendant of Gwon Chaek, the founding ancestor of the Yeonghae branch of the Bujeonggong lineage of the Andong Gwon clan, and to train future scholars. It was built in 1827 by his descendant Gwon Sang-du and repaired in 1889. The building is a tile-roofed house with a hip-and-gable roof, three bays wide and one and a half bays deep, laid out in a straight line of the typical jungdang-hyeopsil type, with a central daecheong (wooden-floored hall) flanked by ondol (heated-floor) rooms on either side. Used as a place to pass on the family's learning, Mansongdang produced many notable figures in the 1800s, providing the background from which participants in the Wijeong Cheoksa movement, a Confucian movement to uphold orthodoxy and reject heterodoxy, and righteous army (uibyeong) volunteers emerged; during the period of anti-Japanese resistance it also served as a site for night schools.
