Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krRyu Su-jeong (1484–1534), courtesy name Huisun and pen name Maneun, belonged to the Jinju Ryu clan. He served as Magistrate of Pyeonghae County and concurrently as Deputy Commander of the Gangneung Garrison. His great-grandfather Ryu Baek-tong also served as Magistrate of Pyeonghae County, his grandfather Ryu Seung-jeok served as Busajeong (Deputy Commandant), and his father was honoured as a Jeongnan Ikdae Wonjong Gongsin, a meritorious subject recognised for quelling disorder and supporting the throne. Dongsanjae Hall had its columns erected on the 28th day of the third month of the sinchuk year, 1841, and its ridge beam raised on the 1st day of the fourth month at the chuk hour (1–3 a.m.). The ridge-raising record was composed by Gwon Bong-hui, a Gyori (Fifth Counsellor) of the Hongmungwan (Office of Special Advisers), and written out by his descendant Ryu Jong-won. The hall faces south and comprises a front of four bays and a side of two bays, built in the napdori five-purlin style with a gable (matbae) roof. The front columns are round, while the rear has square columns and a narrow veranda (toema); rooms occupy either side, with a wooden floor at the centre and front, and the column bases are natural, unworked stones.
