Cheongganjeong Pavilion, Sangju
상주 청간정 · 尙州 廳澗亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krCheongganjeong Pavilion is thought to have been built around 1650 by Jo Ye (1608–1661), known by his pen name Gagok. It is known as a place of study for the descendants of the Geomgan-gong branch of the Pungyang Jo clan, and as a venue where Confucian scholars of the Yeongnam region gathered to discuss current affairs and hold poetry gatherings. The pavilion today bears two inscribed plaques, one reading "Cheongganjeong" and the other "Ikam Seodang". Built in the latter half of the seventeenth century and repaired in the latter half of the nineteenth century, it retains the characteristics of a mid-Joseon pavilion, and because the scale and composition of the original construction have been relatively well preserved, it is considered to hold high research value for the study of Joseon-period pavilion architecture.
