Yaildang Hall in Seokpo-ri, Yeongju
영주 석포리 야일당 · 榮州 石浦里 野逸堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYaildang originally stood in Dongpo Village, but collapsed in flood damage at an early date and was relocated to its present site in the valley behind the village. It consists of the Yaildang pavilion and a main residential hall. Yaildang is a gable-roofed tile house measuring three kan across the front and one-and-a-half kan deep. In plan, a one-kan daecheong (wooden-floored hall) is placed on the left, joined to two kan of heated ondol rooms on the right, with a half-kan veranda bay at the front. A small shrine niche is set into the upper rear wall of the daecheong, and a small pair of hinged wooden-panel doors is fitted between the middle and lower rails of the left-side wall. The main residential hall is a square, ㅁ-shaped building measuring five kan across the front and five-and-a-half kan deep. In plan, centred on the middle gate bay, the men's quarters on the left consist of a two-kan sarang room and a one-kan sarang floor; behind the sarang floor, a mourning room and a newlywed's room are joined to form the left wing. To the right of the middle gate bay is a one-kan stable, now converted into a heated room; behind it, a storeroom and another storage room are joined to form the right wing. In the women's quarters, centred on the inner daecheong, an inner sarang room is placed on the left, and a two-kan main room and kitchen are joined on the right; in front of these, on either side, a one-kan passage bay connects them to the left and right wings. The pavilion was rebuilt in the mid-17th century, and its door and panel construction retains archaic techniques; the main residential hall appears to have been built somewhat later than Yaildang.
