Miyeonseowon was founded in 1825 in memory of Heo Mok (pen name Misu), and was rebuilt in 1901. It is a building five bays wide and one bay deep with front and rear toe extensions, built on a five-purlin (oryangga) frame with a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof. Its relatively old date gives it significance worth examining as a designated piece of heritage, and, as a building that faithfully follows traditional construction methods, it is notable for excellent timber and woodworking, with its windows and doors well preserved in the form they had when it was built.
