봉화 뇌풍정 · 奉化 雷風亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krNoepungjeong is a pavilion built in honour of Gang Jae-hang of the Jinju Gang clan of Beopjeon, Bonghwa, a family belonging to the Noron faction (one of the major Joseon political factions) within the Giho school (a Confucian scholarly tradition) that had established itself as local gentry in the Yeongnam region. Since settling in the area, the Jinju Gang clan of Beopjeon, Bonghwa strengthened ties with the local gentry of the Yeongnam region while also maintaining a presence in the central government. Of particular note is Gang Jae-hang, who, after retiring from office, engaged in scholarly teaching in his home village and associated actively with scholars of the Yeongnam school, including through his participation in the hyangeumjurye (a Confucian village drinking rite) of Samgye Seowon. Noepungjeong is an unusual pavilion built on a rock outcrop amid hilly terrain, and the printing woodblocks and signboards it holds are also notable items of heritage. Moreover, as a distinctive pavilion of the late Joseon period, it has undergone several repairs yet retains its original form well, and, as the pavilion of a family of the Noron faction, it carries important historical significance.
