This historic house is a representative building of the Sayonggongpa branch of the Andong Gwon clan, which has resided in Yeongju for about 500 years. It is an upper-class residence showing the layout typical of the process by which the courtyard houses (tteuljip) of the northern Gyeongsangbuk-do region developed from an open square shape into a fully enclosed square shape, with the floor plan of a central-region-style residential quarters, and even a pavilion attached to the living quarters. Although it has undergone some repairs, it retains well the three-dimensional wall composition and the structure and form of its original construction, making it good material for research into house structures and residential life of the period.
