Mangchujeong Pavilion is the myogak, a memorial shrine built beside a grave, for Lady Hwang, who held the title Jeonggyeong-buin, conferred on the wife of a senior first-rank official. Records concerning Mangchujeong — the Mangchujeonggi (Record of Mangchujeong), the Mangchujeong Jungsugi (Record of the Reconstruction of Mangchujeong) and the Mangchujeong Palmyeong Byeongseo (Eight Inscriptions of Mangchujeong, with Preface) — allow the reasons for its construction and the dates of its reconstruction after its founding to be confirmed. Park Ho-won (1527–1584), pen name Songwoldang, who served as Daesaheon, or Inspector-General, and as Hojo Champan, Second Minister of the Board of Taxation, buried his deceased mother, Lady Hwang, at this site, where three generations of the Park family were already buried, and kept a three-year mourning vigil at her grave. At that time he built a small building he could live in during the vigil, and the name of this house, Mangchujeong, derives from that episode; it embodies a descendant's wish to cherish the memory of a parent. Mangchujeong Pavilion has six bays across the front and three bays on the side, with a five-purlin frame and a hip-and-gable roof. Its interior, from the left, consists of Ondol Room 1 (one bay by two bays), Ondol Room 2 (two bays by two bays), a daecheong, or wooden-floored hall (two bays by one bay), and Ondol Room 3 (one bay by two bays). Except for Ondol Room 1 on the left, the front and rear eaves bays form a toenmaru, a narrow wooden veranda floor, running across five bays at the front, while the daecheong has a toenmaru and a bancheom, a small recessed storage space, at the rear. Gyeonguimun Gate is a sotdaemun-style gate — one built higher than the surrounding wall — with three bays across the front, one bay on the side, a three-purlin frame and a gable roof. On its two-tiered stone platform, the central bay was made narrower and the two flanking bays slightly wider. Above the central bay hangs a plaque reading 'Gyeonguimun', and above the central door is fitted a salchang, a latticed window. The rooms to either side are used for storage, each fitted at the front with a small aluminium-framed glass window. The caretaker's house has three bays across the front and two bays on the side, with a hip-and-gable roof, and comprises Ondol Room 1, with a standing-style kitchen (one bay by two bays), and Ondol Room 2, with a toenmaru veranda floor (two bays by two bays).
