Hamchwijeong Pavilion, Yecheon
예천 함취정 · 醴泉 咸聚亭
Cultural Heritage Material
Hamchwijeong stands in Matjil Village, a representative single-clan village in the Yeongnam region. As well as being a pavilion, Hamchwijeong also serves a commemorative function, holding memorial rites for three men who represented the Yeongnam literati of the early-to-mid Joseon period — Gwon Ui, Gwon Jang and Gwon Uk. Separately from the purpose for which it was originally built, its function later expanded to include this role as a space for ancestral rites, making it a valuable record of the characteristic development of pavilion architecture in the mid-to-late Joseon period.
