Eclectic-style House in Munhwa-dong, Cheongju
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Built in 1924, this building was constructed as the official residence of the Chungcheongbuk-do branch chief of the Joseon Federation of Financial Cooperatives, but it is now used as an arts academy that trains marimba players (the marimba being a folk instrument of central Mexico and South America). The roof is formed by gabled roofs crossing at right angles in a cross shape, and a reception room was placed on the second floor beneath the gable end to secure a view, giving the building the exotic, bungalow-style exterior that was introduced in Korea during the 1920s.
