Cheorwon Ice Storehouse
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

It takes the form of a square concrete box (12m × 10m), and the wall structure (15cm thick) from the time it was used to store ice can still be seen. As few such examples survive, it shows both the demand for ice and the thriving commerce of the period, and illustrates the transition from the Seokbinggo ice storages of antiquity, through the ice storehouses of the modern era, to today's freezers. It is a single-storey concrete building erected in the 1930s for private business by the owner of a restaurant run by a Japanese man; natural water drawn from Sanmyeongho in winter was stored here before being sold. During the Korean War the roof and other parts were destroyed, leaving only the wall structure.
