This is the first Catholic church in the Jinju area, elevated in 1905 from a gongso (a Catholic mission station without a resident priest) at Sochon to a full parish church, and until Korea's liberation it served as the centre of Catholicism for Jinju and the wider western Gyeongsangnam-do region. The old church building, with its tiled roof, and the Western-style church building stand in harmony within the compound. The old church measures six bays (kan) across the front, four bays on the right side and three bays on the left, with an entrance on the east and an altar on the west; rows of columns inside the worship space distinguished the nave from the aisles. As the congregation grew, a Western-style church was built, and the old building is now used as an assembly hall. The Western-style church has a rectangular plan, with a symmetrical worship space arranged around a tall bell tower projecting at the front.
