Built in 1917 during the Japanese colonial period, this building served as the office managing the experimental forest attached to Kyoto University. It is now used as a forest information centre, storing items used for forest protection and management and presenting information on timber products. It is a Japanese-style timber-framed building measuring five bays across the front and five bays in depth; a wide staircase at the centre of the front elevation leads up to a recessed entrance, and the style of its columns and the bracket system (gongpo) supporting the eaves are distinctive.
