Water Tower at Yeoncheon Station
연천역 급수탑 · 漣川驛 給水塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis facility is a water tower built to supply water to the steam locomotives running on the Gyeongwon Line; two towers survive today, one box-shaped and one cylindrical. The box-shaped water tower is of concrete construction, its elevation formed in three tiers - base, wall and roof - with an arched entrance, and horizontal joint lines drawn on the exterior to make it look as though it were built of masonry. The cylindrical water tower retains three water pipes and its mechanical equipment in good condition, and bullet marks from the Korean War remain on the outside of the tower. Although it fell out of use and was abandoned once diesel locomotives appeared in the 1950s, it is highly valued as a railway facility connected with the steam locomotives that played an important part in the process of modernisation.
