Daeungjeon Hall of Dongguksa Temple, Gunsan
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This building was built as the Buddhist hall of Geumgangsa Temple, a temple of the Japanese Soto Zen sect that arrived in Korea along with Japanese settlers after the opening of the port, but after liberation it was renamed Dongguksa Temple, a temple of the Jogye Order, and remains so today. The Daeungjeon Hall is connected by a corridor to the quarters where monks reside, the roof has a steep pitch, and sliding doors are fitted into the building's outer walls — features that follow the style of Japanese temple architecture. Although the interior of the Dharma hall has been partly altered, its original form is largely well preserved.
