Former Food Storehouse of Sorokdo Rehabilitation Center, Goheung

Built in 1940, this building was a storehouse used to keep the food supplied to patients. Its foundations were laid in seawater with a floor built above, so that the rise and fall of the tide would circulate air beneath the floor and help preserve the food stored inside. At the section facing the sea, brick was used to protect the underwater foundations from the effects of seawater, finished on the outside with concrete to form pillar-shaped plinths; arches were turned above these, and brick walls were then built up on top.
