Built in 1939, this building was constructed to serve as a lecture hall for Gwangju Normal School. It is now used as the main building of Gwangju National University of Education and is the oldest building on the campus. A two-storey red-brick structure, it has a projecting entrance porch and a gable roof rising at the centre of its front façade, giving the whole an overall symmetrical balance. The round, arch-shaped clerestory window above the central entrance, together with the semicircular feature supporting it, forms the central element of the building.
