구 동양척식회사 대전지점 · 舊 東洋拓殖會社 大田支店

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1922, this building was constructed as the Daejeon branch of the Oriental Development Company, a leading instrument of exploitation during the Japanese colonial period. After liberation it was used by the Ministry of Communications and then by the Daejeon Telegraph and Telephone Office. The upper, second-storey front is symmetrical on either side of a central pediment, a horizontal moulding runs below the upper eaves line, and the lintels above the window frames are finished with elaborate relief carving. Together with the Chungnam Provincial Office building erected in 1932, it was one of the modern buildings that symbolised Daejeon during the Japanese colonial period.
