Former Gokseong Station Building
구 곡성역사 · 舊 谷城驛舍

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe former Gokseong Station building comprises two single-storey structures: a station building with a floor area of 216.19 ㎡ and a storehouse of 189.50 ㎡. It was built in 1933 as a station on the Jeolla Line and is one of the larger examples among registered wayside stations; it began operating as an ordinary station on 15 October 1933. It was closed in 1999, when Gokseong Station was rebuilt and relocated as part of the double-tracking of the Jeolla Line. The roof has gables at both ends, with the entrance at the front and the office at the rear. The structure is of timber construction with a gable roof; repairs carried out in 2001, before its registration, altered some of the roofing material and sections of the walls. Inside, a heating facility stands between the waiting room and the office, with a chimney built on top of the roof. Gokseong County has purchased the station building and surrounding land and put it to use, and it is now considered one of the best examples of adaptive reuse among closed wayside stations, including use for rail bikes.
