Maesangwan Hall at Maesan Middle School, Suncheon
순천 매산중학교 매산관 · 順天 梅山中學校 梅山館

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1910, this building is an educational facility established by the (US) Southern Presbyterian Church for missionary purposes, and is a representative Western-style modern building in Suncheon. When Maesangwan Hall was first built, it was called the Watts Memorial Boys' School and was originally a brick building, but in 1930 the present stone structure was newly built. The exterior walls are made entirely of granite quarried in the Suncheon and Okcheon area, while most of the interior decorative materials are said to have been imported from the United States. The central section projects slightly to emphasise the façade, and roof windows were installed to allow light and ventilation to pass through freely.
